Chiefs trounce Daley, stay undefeated

(Sugar Grove, IL.) - Waubonsee Community College's women's soccer team won their fifth match in a row pounding Daley College from Chicago 11-0. The Chiefs scored six times in the first half en route to downing the overmatched Bulldogs. Waubonsee controlled the action throughout the game, limiting Daley (0-4) to just two shots total on the day. Both Isabel Cerda and Analise Tobias registered 'hat tricks' with three goals apiece to lead the way.

Cerda, who entered the contest with 17 goals in the Chiefs' first six matches, started the on slaught with a penalty kick goal early in the contest. Not long afterwards Meghan Menzel and Kimberly Diaz also found the back of the net to break the game open. Head Coach Brad Schlemmer liberally used his bench throughout the match as Tobias made it 4-0 Waubonsee midway through the first half. Tobias knotched her second goal of the game from the left side with four minutes remaining in the half to make it 5-0 Chiefs. A little more than a minute later Marlene Sanchez lofted a long kick that drifted over the outstreched arm of the Bulldogs' keeper to make it 6-0.

Molly Schiltz joined the Chiefs' scoring barrage with a goal early in the second half. Cerda, who began the day third nationally among all NJCAA Division I players in goals scored, then completed her fifth 'hat trick' of the season with a pair of goals to extend Waubonsee's lead to 9-0 and give her 20 goals on the season already. Tobias joined her shortly thereafter with her third goal of the match, and Sanchez ended the scoring with her second goal of the day late in the game. Diaz and Sanchez were both credited with a pair of assists, while Cerda and Tobias each tallied an assist. Keeper Alexis Coronilla, filling in for the injured Tanner Prellberg for the third straight game, recorded her third consecutive shutout in goal.

Waubonsee's next match will be a pivitol Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) matchup. The Chiefs will be aiming to keep their winning streak intact and stay in the hunt for the ISCC title as the Chiefs (6-0-1, 2-0) travel to undefeated Oakton Community College (5-0-1, 2-0) on Monday, September 17. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (CST) in north suburban Des Plaines.
