Schlemmer becomes Chiefs' winningest coach

(Elmhurst, IL) - Waubonsee Community College's women's soccer team opened the 2019 season by rallying to edge Elmhurst College's Junior Varsity 2-1 on the Blue Jays' pitch. The victory was head coach Brad Schlemmer's 87th career coaching win at Waubonsee, eclipsing the program mark of 86 set by his predecessor Leslie (Ferguson) Raney from 2004 through 2011. Schlemmer was also the Chiefs' assistant coach for three seasons beginning in 2009. In his 11 seasons with Waubonsee's program, the Chiefs have gone 135-58-15 overall (65 percent) and 43-11-4 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play (74 percent).

In the Chiefs' season-opening win over the Blue Jays, Elmhurst scored with just a minute left in the first half to grab a 1-0 halftime lead. Waubonsee (1-0-0) tied the match 15 minutes into the second half when sophomore forward Olivia Muetze scored off of an assist from Shelby Key. Waubonsee then got the eventual winning goal with 12 minutes left as Key took a feed from Marlene Sanchez and drilled it past the Blue Jays' keeper. Chiefs' goal keeper Skyler Kaelin recorded 10 saves in the net to pick up the win.
