Chiefs down DuPage for program's 200th win

(Glen Ellyn, IL) -  Waubonsee Community College's Women's Soccer team picked up right where they left off this past Spring. After not competing for over 15 months due to the Covid pandemic, the Chiefs completed an abbreviated but very successful Spring season, capped off by reaching the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in early June. On Tuesday evening they continued that success by opening their 2021 Fall season with a 4-1 win under the lights at the College of Dupage. The victory was the 200th in the program's history since the inaugural 2000 season, with most of them coming in the last 15 years. The fledgling program compiled only nine victories in the first five years and has averaged at least a dozen wins a year since then.

Waubonsee quickly showed why it was tabbed sixth nationally in the NJCAA's Division II Pre-season poll, the highest ranking ever for the program. The Chiefs tallied four goals in the first half to take control of the match and never looked back. Kiara McPherson got Waubonsee on the board with an assist from Sarai Munoz, and then returned the favor not long after as she assisted on a goal by returning NJCAA All-American Olivia McPherson, her twin sister. Grace Lennartz found the back of the net with an assist from the Chiefs' other All-American Lindsay Ferris to put Waubonsee in front 3-0. Olivia McPherson then added a fourth score with her second goal of the match off of an assist from Amy Flores. The Chaparrals avoided the shutout by scoring just before halftime, but never threathened the Chiefs' lead in a scoreless second half. Waubonsee employed three different keepers throughout the match with Isabelle Harkleroad and Priscila Vargas each recording four saves, and Halima Osman tallying three saves in goal. Waubonsee registered 18 shots on goal compared to 12 for DuPage.
