(Sugar Grove, IL) –Waubonsee Community College's women's soccer team continued to roll along as they routed Wheaton College's Club Team 10-0 in a Saturday morning match. The Chiefs dominated throughout the game, out shooting the visiting Thunder 25-7. Coach Brad Schlemmer's squad has now out scored their opponents 23-1 in their first four games of the season.
Waubonsee got on the scoreboard just eight minutes into the match when Olivia McPherson beat the Thunder keeper on the near side of the goal. In the 18th minute McPherson tallied her second goal when she poked a rebound past the Thunder's diving keeper to make it 2-0. Two minutes later McPherson got free on a breakaway on the right side. Her pass to Katie Jones in the middle of the field was partially deflected by a Thunder defender. However, Jones quickly regained control of the ball and passed it to the left side where Kiara McPherson drilled a shot past the keeper from eight yards out for a quick 3-0 lead. In the 23rd minute Jones received a pass in the middle of the field and curled a left-footed shot from 10 yards away just out of the reach of the Thunder's keeper to the far side of the goal. The Chiefs took that 4-0 lead into halftime and never looked back.
Early in the second half Sarai Munoz booked an unassisted goal to get Waubonsee's offense going once more. Barely five minutes later Kiara McPherson drilled a shot into the left corner of the net off of a pass from Munoz for her second goal of the match to make it 6-0. In the 60th minute the Thunder keeper stopped another Chiefs' shot, but bobbled the ball. Olivia McPherson alertly kicked it out of her hands and into the near side of the net for her third goal of the game. McPherson's 'hat trick' moved her season total to five goals in just two games that she has appeared in, as she and twin sister Kiara simultaneously split time between the volleyball court and the soccer field.
Only three minutes later Jones scored again, her seventh goal of the season, to push the lead to 8-0. In the 73rd minute Nichole Jacobsen tallied her first goal of the season with an assist from Tsion White to make it 9-0 in favor of the Chiefs. In the 82nd minute a shot by Emely Mendoza was once again deflected by the Thunder keeper. Marla Rodriguez pounced on the rebound and quickly tapped the ball just inside the left post to put the Chiefs ahead 10-0 and round out the scoring.
