Chiefs trounce Lancers in ISCC matchup

(Sugar Grove, IL) –Waubonsee Community College's women's soccer team trounced the College of Lake County 8-0 on Wednesday afternoon in an Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference matchup. Paced by a 'hat trick' by Sarai Munoz, the Chiefs (5-0, 2-0) scored four times in each half to coast to the victory. , out shooting the Lancers 30-10. In five matches thus far this season, head coach Brad Schlemmer's squad has outscored its opponents a combined 31-1.

"They did not really threaten us much as our defense led by Emely Mendoza, Amy Flores, Molly Herbig and Isabelle Harkleroad got another shutout," stated Schlemmer. "Sonia Macias was injured and like so many of our players, Cindy Brunswig filled the gap. Our team has shown to be very talented and deep this season, which is what we were missing last season."

Katie Jones started the onslaught as she scored her eighth goal of the season off of an assist from Olivia McPherson 15 minutes into the game. Five minutes later Munoz made it 2-0 Chiefs when she scored with an assist from Lindsay Ferris. It remained that way until just before halftime when the McPherson twins each scored a goal in the final five minutes of the period. Olivia booked her fourth goal of the season with an assist from Grace Lennartz, and Kiara McPherson tallied her third goal of the fall off of an assist from her sister.

In the 55th minute Munoz registered her second goal of the game with an assist from Jones to put the Chiefs in complete command at 5-0. Ten minutes later Ferris found the back of the net as Herbig was credited with the assist for a 6-0 lead. Munoz then finished off her 'hat trick' with a third goal in the 75th minute as Lennartz handed out the assist. Five minutes later Flores rounded out the scoring with an assist from Mendoza. Harkleroad recorded 10 saves in goal to preserve the Chiefs' fourth shutout win in five matches.

Waubonsee is in action again this coming Saturday, September 11 when they head to River Grove to battle Triton College beginning at noon. The Chiefs return home next Wednesday, September 15 when they host Black Hawk College starting at 4:00 p.m. (CST).
