Flores, MacRitchie headline Chiefs Post-Season Honorees

Defender Amy Flores and goal keeper Paige MacRitchie headlined a large contingent of Waubonsee Community College Women's Soccer team members who were recognized for their outstanding play during the 2022 season. Flores was named the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) Player of the Year for the second straight year, the Chiefs' first two-time winner of the award. MacRitchie was selected the ISCC's Goalie of the Year, the third straight season a Waubonsee keeper has garnered that award. Flores and MacRitchie, along with midfielder Sarai Munoz and defender Arizbeth Sanchez, were each chosen All-Region and All-ISCC First Teamers. Waubonsee's Ashleigh Wackerlin, Tsion White and Daisy Quinonez were all tabbed to the All-ISCC Second Team, while Bailey Prichard, Molly Herbig and Anna Corneliusen were each named All-ISCC Honorable Mention. Chiefs' head coach Brad Schlemmer was selected the ISCC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year.

Flores was yet again the anchor of the Chiefs' defense this past season, making numerous key defensive stops on the way to helping Waubonsee's defenders finish in the top-40 among all NJCAA Division II teams in total goals allowed at only 31 over 16 matches. The Aurora Central Catholic graduate was instrumental in the Chiefs' defensive unit posting a goals-against-average (GAA) of 2.07 for the season, which also ranked in the top-40 nationally. Flores even scored four goals and had three assists on the season from her defensive position. An NJCAA Division II Second Team All-American last season, the sophomore was one of Region 4's All-American nominees this year.

MacRitchie, a native of South Elgin, posted a save percentage of .909 on the season to place her fifth among all NJCAA Division II keepers. The Geneva High School graduate also registered 130 saves, tying her for eighth nationally. MacRitchie also finished the season with a GAA of 1.65 to finish in the top-40 in the country. The sophomore allowed just 13 goals all season while being credited with six wins in net. MacRitchie was also one of Region 4's nominees for All-American consideration.

An Aurora West High School product, Munoz was the Chiefs' quarterback on the field throughout the season. The sophomore midfielder helped direct Waubonsee's offensive attack and often helped out defensively when need for Coach Schlemmer's squad. Munoz scored five goals and was credited with four assists, ending her Chiefs' career with 21 assists, fifth most in program history. Sanchez, a defender from Aurora East High School, recorded a goal and had three assists on the year. The freshman helped the Chiefs compile 31 assists as a team to rank in the top-30 among all Division II teams.

Wackerlin, a freshman from Hinckley-Big Rock High School, tallied a team-leading 12 goal with five of them being game-winning scores, tying her for seventh nationally in that category. The forward also registered four assists and compiled a team-leading 28 points. A sophomore midfielder, White scored a pair of goals and had an assist during the season. The Aurora West High School alumnus contributed to Waubonsee's total of 35 goals scored, which also placed the Chiefs in the top-40 in scoring nationally. Quinonez, who was the ISCC's Keeper of the Year for the Spring 2021 season, split time in goal with MacRitchie this season. The sophomore from Aurora East High School booked 107 saves and picked up three wins in net.

Prichard, a sophomore defender from Kaneland High School, managed to score a goal and make two assists along the way. Due to an extra year of eligibility because of the Covid pandemic, this fall Prichard and Munoz became the only individuals to be on three ISCC Women's Soccer title teams. A sophomore midfielder from Plano High School, Herbig tallied two assists on the season while helping out all over the field. Corneliusen, a freshman from Oswego High School, was key part of a Chiefs' defense that registered four shutouts.

Schlemmer guided the Chiefs to a 10-6 overall mark while also going undefeated (5-0) in conference play to win the ISCC title for the third straight year and sixth time in the program's history. Schlemmer has led Waubonsee to 133 wins in his 11 seasons as head coach, going 47-13-2 in ISCC play alone, a winning percentage of 78.3 percent in conference matches. As a team the Chiefs were third nationally in total saves as the duo of MacRitchie and Quinonez accounted for a majority of Waubonsee's 255 total saves.
