Merit (Elzey) Stloukal joins Waubonsee’s women's soccer program this fall as the Chiefs’ assistant coach. She brings an impressive resume and soccer acumen to the program as a successful coach and former standout player. Stloukal previously worked with Elmhurst College’s women’s soccer program and is one of the top goalkeeping coaches in all of Chicagoland. She began coaching in the western suburbs in 1998 with stints at local clubs including Campton United, Strikers Fox Valley, Tri-Cities Soccer Association, and Kaneland United. She also spent two years as the goalkeeper coach at Northern Illinois University (NIU). Currently, Stloukal is the Director of Goalkeeping at Team Chicago and the Illinois Youth Soccer Association's Olympic Development Program.

Her coaching successes include working with NIU standout goalkeeper Lindsey Curnock, who broke the Huskies’ and Mid-American Conference’s career goalkeeping record for shutouts under her tutelage. Stloukal also worked with St. Charles North High School All-State goalkeeper Erin Kane, who was an NCAA All-American at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Kane then later played professionally for St. Louis Athletica with U.S. National Team goalkeeper Hope Solo. In addition, Stloukal was the assistant coach for St. Charles North’s 2004 Girls' Varsity Soccer team that finished second in the state.

Stloukal was an Illinois High School Association (IHSA) All-State, All-Great Lakes, and Parade Magazine All-American at St. Charles East High School. She helped lead the powerhouse Saints to a pair of state championship titles and a third-place finish. A four-year starter and scholarship goalkeeper at Indiana University (IU), Stloukal earned All-Big Ten Conference, All-Regional, and All-Big Ten Academics honors in helping lead the Hoosiers to a Big Ten Championship and IU’s first ever NCAA tournament appearance. She was voted team Most Valuable Player all four years and team captain, as well as receiving Indiana University’s Athlete of the Week and Soccer America's Player of the Week honors. Stloukal was also the goalkeeper for the 1997 Chicago Cobras National Runner-Up team and a member of the 2000 Chicago Cobra National Championship team of the United Soccer League. As a youth player, Stloukal was a member of the Olympic Development Program Regional Team and the National Team pool, with invitations to play internationally. After her collegiate career, she received offers to play in Denmark.

Stloukal recently completed the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National C License course and holds a USSF National D License and United Soccer Coaches Level 1, 2, and 3 Goalkeeping Diplomas. Stloukal resides in Sugar Grove with her three kids.
