Chiefs sweep DuPage for third straight win

(Glen Ellyn, IL.) - Waubonsee Community College's women's tennis team continues to roll along. For the third straight match the Chiefs swept all nine flights from their opponent, this time downing the College of DuPage 9-0 on the Chaparrals' courts. Marissa Silva won 7-5, 6-4 at number one singles before Julie Pruneda took her number two singles match 6-1, 6-0. Caiti Gallagher won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at number three singles. Liz Towell had the toughest battle of the day as she rallied to edged Tamara Krvic in three sets 2-6, 6-2 and 10-8. Lauren Karolewicz scored a 6-3, 6-2 win at number five singles, and Mary Collum won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at number six singles. Silva and Gallagher then teamed up at number one doubles to win 8-2. Pruneda paired up with Katy Biard at number two doubles and turned in a convincing 8-0 victory. Towell and Collum then completed the sweep with an 8-5 triumph at number three doubles. Waubonsee, now 3-1 overall, is in action again Tuesday, September 18 when they travel to Moraine Valley Community College for an Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference match-up. The Chiefs and Cyclones are set to start at 2:45 p.m. (CST) in southwest suburban Palos Hills.
