Chiefs sweep IVCC, improve to 6-1

(Aurora, IL.) - Waubonsee Community College continues to roll along as the Chiefs blanked visiting Illinois Valley Community College 9-0 on the Washington Middle School tennis courts. Its the fourth time the Chiefs have swept all nine flights from an opponent this fall as coach Jennifer McMullen's crew improves to 6-1 overall on the season. Marissa Silva won her number one singles match 6-4, 6-2 over Madalyn Robbins. Julie Pruneda won handily at number two singles downing Emma Proffitt 6-1 and 6-0. Caiti Gallagher won 6-3, 6-4 at number three singles over the Eagles' Karlee Arjes. Liz Towell defeated Kaitlyn Sopko 6-3, 6-0 in number four singles action. Lauren Karolewicz had the only close match of the day eventually prevailing in three sets 6-4, 4-6 and 10-8 in the tie breaker to knock off Julia Browning. Mary Collum then completed the Chiefs' dominance in singles play by winning her number six singles match 6-1 and 6-2 over Maya Durdan. Silva and Gallagher teamed up to take the number one doubles match 6-3 and 6-2. Pruneda and Karolewicz won their number two doubles match 6-0 and 6-2, before the duo of Collum and Katie Biard won 6-1 and 6-3 at number three doubles for the clean sweep by Waubonsee.
