Chiefs edge CLC, even season record

(Grayslake, IL) - Waubonsee Community College's women's tennis team pulled out a hard-fought 5-4 win over the College of Lake County. In the process the Chiefs improved to 2-0 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference action and evened their overall season record at 3-3. The back-and-forth affair saw the Lancers' Carly Burgeson down Waubonsee's Hailey Wilcox in a marathon number one singles match 6-3, 4-6 and 12-10 in the tie breaker. The Chiefs' Elizabeth Egerman won her number two singles match 6-2 and 6-1 over Gabby Palm, while Lake County's Alex Gregory defeated Valerie Schallmo by the same score at number three singles. The Chiefs' Lauren Weber then evened things up by winning her number four singles match against Nicole Miclat 6-2 and 6-4. Katie Biard helped Waubonsee get the upper hand by pulling out a 7-5, 1-6 and 10-5 victory over Grace Marino at number five singles. However, the Lancers tied it up as Keely Mulcahy defeated Pauline Schallmo 6-1 and 6-2 at number six singles. Wilcox and Egerman then teamed up at number one doubles to knock off the tandem of Palm and Gregory 6-4 and 6-1 to give the Chiefs the lead. The number two doubles match went three sets with Valerie Schallmo and Weber pairing up to win 6-1, 3-6 and 10-7 over the duo of Berguson and Marino. Lake County then pulled out the number three doubles match for the final tally. Andrea Morales and Mulcahy rallied to top the Chiefs' Biard and Pauline Schallmo in three sets 6-7, 6-4 and 10-6.
