Chiefs top McHenry for ISCC title

(Aurora, IL) - Waubonsee Community College's Women's Tennis team captured the 2020 Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) title by downing visiting McHenry County College 7-2 at the Washington Park courts on Aurora's far west side. The Chiefs went 3-0 in ISCC play and improved to 4-1 overall with the victory. For Waubonsee's Women's Tennis program, the conference title is the 19th in its history and first under second-year coach Douglas Passett.

Waubonsee won five of the six singles matches and two of the three matches in doubles play to cruise to the win over the Scots. Hailey Wilcox held off McHenry's Sarah Schuetzle to take their number one singles match 6-3 and 6-4. Elizabeth Egerman overwhelmed Gabbi Barnous 6-0, 6-3 at number two singles. Taylor Wyeth then knocked off Ky Kessler 6-3, 6-2 in their number three singles battle. The Hernandez twins proceeded to put Waubonsee in front 5-0 and secure the ISCC title by winning their number four and five singles matches. Jazmine Hernandez defeated Elizabeth Lalond 6-3, 6-4 while sister Angelina Hernandez downed Morgan Paaske 6-4, 6-2. McHenry's Hannah Schuetzle got the Scots on the board with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Lauren Silva at number six singles.

Wilcox and Egerman then teamed up at number one doubles against the tandem of Kessler and Hannah Schuetzle. The Chiefs' duo pulled out a 7-6 win in the first set, edging Kessler and Schuetzle in a tie breaker 7-5. Wilcox and Egerman finished off their opponents with a convincing 6-1 triumph in the second set. The Hernandez sisters paired up at number two doubles and scored a 6-4, 6-2 win over Barnous and Sarah Schuetzle. Lalond and Paaske salvaged a second win for McHenry by taking a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Wyeth and Silva.
