Chiefs pull out win at Sauk Valley

(Dixon, IL) -  Waubonsee Community College's Women's Tennis team wrapped up a shortened season due to the Covid-19 pandemic with a hard fought 5-4 win at Sauk Valley Community College. With the slim victory coach Douglas Passett's Chiefs finish the regular season 5-1 overall. The match was tied at three wins each after the two squads split the six singles matches and headed into doubles play. It all essentially came down to the number two doubles battle between Waubonsee's Hernandez twins and the Skyhawks' duo of Sydney Schott and Lexy Sneek. With the match on the line, Jazmine Hernandez served up four straight service winners to close out the match for a 6-3, 6-4 triumph.

As it turned out the teams were even throughout the other eight flights. Sauk Valley's Maddy Jacobs defeated hailey Wilcox in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at number one singles. Elizabeth Egerman, voted the Chiefs' Player of the Year for her consistent play, downed Sonia Chino 6-1 and 6-0 at number two singles. Waubonsee's Taylor Wyeth fell at number three singles to Schott 6-2, 6-2, before Jazmine Hernandez zoomed past Sneek at number four singles 6-1, 6-1. Sauk Valley's Meghan Van Buren knocked off Angelina Hernandez 6-2, 6-3 at number five singles, and the Chiefs' Lauren Silva evened things up by beating Alyssa Marquez 6-1, 6-4 at number six singles. In doubles play Wyeth and Silva topped the tandem of Van Buren and Marquez 6-3, 6-1 at number three doubles. While the number two doubles match was playing out, the Skyhawks' Jacobs and Chino pulled out a 6-2 and 7-6 victory over Wilcox and Egerman at number one doubles, taking the tie breaker 7-5.
