Chiefs Score Solid Win Over McHenry

(Algonquin, IL) -  Waubonsee Community College's Women's Tennis team scored a solid 7-2 win over McHenry County College at the Crystal Lake Racket Club. Coach Warren Harris' crew won four of the six singles matches and all three matches in doubles play to earn the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) victory. The win improves the Chiefs' overall record to 4-2 and 2-1 in ISCC action.

Taylor Wyeth paced Waubonsee's road win by setting the tone with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Hannah Schuetzle at number one singles. The Hernandez twins followed suit with Jazmine Hernandez taking her number two singles match by a 6-1, 6-2 score over Alison Gerhordt. Angelina Hernandez also booked a resounding 6-0, 6-1 victory at number three singles over Riley Wasilk. Lauren Silva put the Chiefs fully in control when she won her number four singles match 6-1, 6-2 over Jolie Conrad. McHenry got on the board when Niedy Macias rallied to pull out a tough three-set win over Waubonsee's Breanna Carr. Carr won the opening set 6-2 before Macias took the second set 6-4. Macias then edged Carr 10-8 in the third set tie breaker. McHenry's Kaitlyn Mauck beat the Chiefs' Chelsea Theinkeu 6-1, 6-0 to finish off singles play.

Waubonsee then swept all three doubles matches, with Wyeth and Silva teaming up to down Schuetzle and her sister Sarah Schuetzle 6-4 and 7-5 at first doubles. The Hernandez twins won their number two doubles match 6-2, 6-1 over the tandem of Gerhordt and Jenn Bennett. Carr and Theinkeu held off the pairing of Wasilk and Macias 6-3, 6-4 at number three singles to complete the Chiefs' victory.
