Sauk Valley Sinks Chiefs

(Aurora, IL) -  Visiting Sauk Valley Community College downed Waubonsee Community College 7-2 in women's tennis action on a sunny, hot Fall day at the Washington Park Tennis Complex on Aurora's far west side. With the temperature reaching 90, unseasonably warm for late Septemeber in northern Illinois, the Skyhawks outlasted a tired Chiefs' squad which had played the previous day on the road at McHenry County College. Sauk Valley captured five of the six singles matches to secure the victory early on.

Waubonsee's Taylor Wyeth was the lone bright spot for coach Warren Harris' crew. The sophomore from Aurora West High School rallied to grab a three-set win over Sydney Schott 3-6, 6-4 and 10-8 in the tie breaker. Wyeth patiently spent much of the match exchanging ground strokes with Schott until she was able to take advantage of several unforced errors. Wyeth later teamed up with Lauren Silva at number one doubles, grabbing a 6-4, 6-4 win over the duo of Saryn Seeley and Lexi Sneek.

The Hernandez twins, Jazmine and Angelina, both lost their matches at number two and three singles, respectively. Silva lost her number four singles match in three sets to Meghan Van Buren 2-6, 6-3 and 10-4 in the tie breaker. Breanna Carr and Chelsea Theinkeu also dropped their matches in number five and six singles. Sauk Valley won the number two doubles match as Schott and Van Buren teamed up to edge the Hernandez twins in three sets 4-6, 7-5 and 10-8 in the final tie breaking set. The duo of Carr and Theinkeu fell at number three doubles, losing 7-5 and 6-0 to the team of Olivia Pitkin and Kenzie Hubbard.
