Chiefs stay unbeaten in ISCC

(Cicero, IL.) - Waubonsee Community College remained tied for first place in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) standings with a solid 3-0 win over Morton College. The Chiefs downed the Panthers 25-19, 25-14 and 25-17 to keep pace with league leader Moraine Valley Community College. Waubonsee's win sets the stage for a Cyclones (18-4, 5-0) and Chiefs (16-9, 5-0) showdown next Wednesday, Oct. 10 when the two teams meet in Palos Hills at 6:00 p.m. (CST).

Coach Steve Kish's crew had a balanced attack in their win over the Panthers with five different players talliying seven or more kills. Maizy Larson led the way with 10 kills and eight digs. Sidney Fedor contributed eight kills, while Anna Friedlund chipped in with seven kills. Kayla Battle also had seven kills and three solo blocks to give her 73 on the season, the fourth most of any NJCAA Division II player in the country. Chiefs' setter Natalie Jones finished with seven kills, 28 assists and three service aces. The sophomore from Aurora West High School has 62 aces on the year, second nationally in that category.      

The Chiefs are on the road again this evening when they head to Glen Ellyn to square off against the College of DuPage at 6:00 p.m. Waubonsee is set to travel to Boone, Iowa this weekend to compete the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Tournament. The Chiefs are scheduled to play top-25 ranked North Dakota State College of Science this Friday, October 5 at 6:00 p.m. and previously nationally-ranked Neosho County (KS) Community College at 8:00 p.m. On Saturday Waubonsee will battle the nations's third-ranked team Coffeyville (KS) Community College for the second time this season beginning at noon. Waubonsee will close out the round-robin DMACC Tournament with a 2:00 p.m. match against fifth-ranked Highland (KS) Community College.
