Chiefs Clinch ISCC Championship

(Palos Hills, IL.) - Waubonsee Community College clinched the 2018 Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) title with a 3-1 victory at Moraine Valley Community College. The ISCC crown is the second for Waubonsee in the last five years, sandwiched around three straight championships by McHenry County College (2015, 2016 & 2017). As a matter-of-fact, over the last six seasons the Chiefs have gone a combined 34-5 in ISCC play with two titles, three second-place finishes and one third-place finish. Waubonsee downed the Cyclones 25-13 in game one, then hung on for a 26-24 victory in the second game. Moraine Valley (21-6, 5-1) stayed alive by edging the Chiefs 25-23 in the third game, before Waubonsee completed an undefeated ISCC campaign with a 25-20 triumph to take the match.   

Sidney Fedor paced Waubonsee (19-12, 6-0) with 13 kills and 17 digs. Maizy Larson also registered 13 kills and had an equal number of digs, while Anna Friedlund chipped in with 11 kills and two aces. Chiefs' setter Natalie Jones tallied 40 assists, 19 digs and a pair of service aces. Kayla Battle finished with eight kills and four solo blocks, and Kendall Iverson added 19 digs in the title clinching victory. Coach Steve Kish's crew is in action again next week when they host Kankakee Community College on Sophomore Night, seeking their 20th win of the season. The Chiefs and Cavaliers are set to face off beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, OCtober 17.
