(Sugar Grove, IL.) - Waubonsee Community College's women's volleyball team honored their six sophomores prior to the team's final regular season home match. Then the Chiefs went out and made a special night even more memorable. Waubonsee turned in one of its' better performances of the season in trouncing Kankakee Community College in three straight games for the team's 20th win of the season. It is the sixth consecutive year that Waubonsee has won 20 or more matches under the direction of head coach Steve Kish. His Chiefs won the opener 25-18, before trouncing the Cavaliers 25-12 in game two and then 25-7 in the third set to easily win the match.

In game one sophomore middle hitter Kayla Battle started off the scoring and set the tone with an emphatic kill to begin the match. The Chiefs (20-12) grabbed an early 9-2 lead and held a 16-7 advantage midway through the first set. Kankakee (13-21) reeled off four straight points to get within five, but that is as close as they would get as Waubonsee prevailed 25-18. Waubonsee again grabbed an early lead in game two before the Cavaliers tied it at 5-all. After that the Chiefs took complete control running off nine straight points behind the serving of Kendall Iversen. Waubonsee led 18-12 when sophomore Natalie Jones took over serving. The Chiefs' setter tallied consecutive aces as Waubonsee booked seven straight points to win the game 25-12. Waubonsee then overwhelmed the Cavaliers in the third game taking the first six points highlighted by a pair of power kills by Battle. A few minutes later Jones again registered back-to-back aces to put the Chiefs in front 12-2. An ace by Maizy Larson and a kill by Emma King made it 18-4 and the rout was officially on. A final ace by Iversen ended it as Waubonsee finished the match with a dozen aces.

Sidney Fedor led Waubonsee with 11 kills to increase her team-leading total to 265 kills on the season. Battle finished with nine kills, while Iverson added 14 digs and four serving aces. Jones tallied 23 assists and booked five aces to move her to the top of that category among all NJCAA Division II players. The Aurora West graduate leads the nation with 82 aces on the season, one more than Lansing (MI.) Community College's Hannah Whiteman. Anna Friedlund chipped in with six kills, and King and Larson each recorded a pair of serving aces.
