Five members of Waubonsee Community College's Women's Volleyball team were recently honored by the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) and the Region IV Volleyball Committees. Sophomore setter Natalie Jones was named the ISCC Player of the Year and All-Region to head up the Chiefs' contingent of honorees. Kayla Battle was also chosen to the All-ISCC First Team and the All-Region squad along with being nominated for NJCAA All-American consideration. Sidney Fedor was tabbed to the All-ISCC Second Team and the All-Region team, and Kendall Iversen was selected Honorable Mention All-ISCC. Head Coach Steve Kish was recognized as the ISCC Coach of the Year after helping guide the Chiefs to an undefeated (6-0) ISCC title.
Jones finished the season with 1,144 assists and 90 serving aces, leading Waubonsee in both of those categories. She was second nationally in aces among all NJCAA Division II players, and finished her Waubonsee career with a school record 171 aces. The Aurora West High School graduate ranked 15th in the nation for assists this fall and was credited with 1,769 assists the last two years helping direct the Chiefs' attack. A two-time All-ISCC and All-Region performer, Jones also tallied 187 kills, 321 digs, 324.5 points and even registered 38 solo blocks this season. In addition, she was to lone Chiefs' player named to the Region IV All-Tournament team as second-seeded Waubonsee was upset in the title match by Moraine Valley.
Battle, also an Aurora West High School alumnus, booked 300 kills on her way to becoming a two-time All-ISCC and All-Region honoree. The 6'0 sophomore finished third nationally with 109 solo blocks, compiling 206 solo blocks the last two seasons. On the season Battle tied for 15th nationally with 138 total blocks, and also booked 430.5 points as the Chiefs' middle hitter.
Fedor rounded out a trio of former Aurora West graduates who were recognized for their outstanding play. The 6'0 sophomore led the Chiefs in kills for the second straight year, tallying 342 kills to finish with 584 for her Waubonsee career. An outside hitter, Fedor led the Chiefs with 435.5 points and also served up 30 aces during the season on her way to becoming a two-time All-ISCC and All-Region selection.
Iverson, a freshman from Aurora Central Catholic High School, led Waubonsee with 593 digs placing her 33rd nationally in that category. The Chiefs' libero finished in the top-50 nationally in digs per set, averaging nearly five digs per set played.
Kish led Waubonsee to the championship match of the Region IV Division II Tournament for the fourth straight year after the Chiefs won their second ISCC title under his direction. The Chiefs finished the season 24-16 overall, playing one of the toughest schedules in the country with exactly half of their matches against nationally ranked opponents this fall. Waubonsee fell just one win shy of reaching 25 or more wins for the sixth straight season under Kish's guidance. Over the last six years he has led the Chiefs to 171 victories and a 38-6 record in ISCC play.
