Chiefs pound ECC for 10th straight win

(Elgin, IL) - Waubonsee Community College's volleyball team extended their winning streak to 10 games with a 3-0 romp over Elgin Community College. The Chiefs improved to 16-4 overall by pounding the Spartans by scores of 25-10, 25-10 and 25-14. Waubonsee, the defending Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference champions, improved to 4-0 in league action with the win over the Spartans. Ranked in the top-25 in the latest NJCAA Division II poll, the Chiefs have also now won 13 of their last 14 matches.

Sydni Coultrip led the way for Waubonsee with 13 kills, giving her 196 on the season to tie her for 15th in that category among all NJCAA Division II players. The sophomore also had eight assists, three serving aces and one solo block. Sydney Fedderly tallied six kills to give her 235 on the year putting her in a tie for fourth nationally in kills. Rebecca Robinson registered 10 assists to up her season total to 419 and place her 19th nationally in assists. The freshman setter also booked one ace and is currently second nationally with 47 service aces. Gabrielle Dlabal and Alyssa Gittins each recorded two solo blocks for the match. Dlabal now sits fourth nationally in solo blocks with 51, while Gittins is right behind her in fifth with 49 solo blocks. Sophomore Riane Tomsa chipped in with 13 digs and three aces, while Jessica Havernick contributed 11 assists.

Coach Steve Kish's crew is on the road this weekend at Kansas City-Kansas Community College's tournament. The Chiefs will take on fourth-ranked Highland (KS) Community College and the host school KCKCC, ranked 20th nationally, on Friday, September 20. Waubonsee will also play Northeast (NE) Community College and Neosho County (KS) College the following day. The Chiefs do not return home until Wednesday, September 25 when they host the College of Lake County in an ISCC match-up beginning at 6:00 p.m.
