(Sugar Grove, IL) - Waubonsee Community College's women's volleyball team rolled past Morton College in three straight games to give head coach Steve Kish his 200th career victory. The Chiefs (19-7, 6-0) topped the Panthers (8-9, 2-4) by scores of 25-9, 25-17 and 26-24. The victory sets up a showdown with Moraine Valley Community College for the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) title. The Cyclones (16-2, 6-0), ranked 17th nationally in the latest NJCAA Division II poll, are set to play the Chiefs next Wednesday, October 9 at 6:00 p.m. in Waubonsee's Erickson Hall Gymnasium. In his eighth season at Waubonsee Kish has now compiled a 200-112 record overall, including a 49-11 mark in ISCC play.

Waubonsee jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the opening game on the way to the lopsided win over Morton. In game two it was tied at 8-all before the Chiefs gradually began to pull away. Kish then utilized his bench in a tightly contested third game. Neither team could manage more than a three-point advantage at any time before the score was tied at 21-all. Morton grabbed a 24-23 lead to reach a potential game-winning point scenario. However, the Chiefs registered the next two points, taking a 25-24 lead when the Panthers' return shot off a Chiefs' block sailed out of bounds. Waubonsee then won the game and match when a return shot by Morton went into the net.  

Sydney Fedderly paced Waubonsee with nine kills and 14 digs, while Sydni Coultrip added seven kills in the win. Rebecca Robinson recorded 16 assists, with Gabrielle Dlabal and Alyssa Gittins each registering four solo blocks. Dlabal now has 66 solo blocks on the season, placing her fourth nationally in that category among all NJCAA Division II players. Gittins upped her total to 64 solo blocks, putting her right behind her teammate in fifth nationally. Riane Tomsa added 17 digs and two aces, and Gittins and Larkin O'Donnell each had a pair of service aces.
