Three straight blocks by Sandburg's 6'1" Ayla Cannon eventually resulted in a point and tied the score at 2-all. A few minutes later a power kill by Elaina Evers from the right side and a pair of aces put Waubonsee in front 10-6. Another spike by Abby Colon helped the Chiefs maintain their lead at 13-10 before Cannon finished off a long volley with a kill in the middle of the net to make it 14-11. Sandburg eventually pulled even at 17-all and took the lead when 6'0" middle hitter Grace Evans blocked an Evers kill attempt. A minute later Evers made that a reality by powering a spike off the Chargers' defense for a 25-23 triumph.

Evers picked up right where she left off by scoring a pair of kills to begin the third set. Raimondi followed with an ace to quickly give Waubonsee a 3-0 lead. A net violation gave Waubonsee the lead momentarily before Sandburg surged ahead 18-15. This time it was Waubonsee's turn for a comeback as the Chiefs tied the game at 19 as Crump avoided the Chargers blocking wall with a fantastic kill to the left corner of the court. After a Sandburg timeout a kill and an ace put the visitors ahead 21-19. Waubonsee quickly tied it with a kill and an ace of their own by Joselyn Roche. Two consecutive blocks and quick reacting return by Raimondi deadlocked the score at 22 as the Chargers called timeout. Following the break the teams traded points as Greer-Ahmed tied it with a kill down the left side. A perfectly placed return shot by Colon just inside the back line gave the Chiefs a 24-23 lead. However, a service error and a mishandled exchange by the Chiefs gave Sandburg the upper hand at 25-24. Colon tied things again with a power kill to keep the game going. Cannon then answered with a power slam of her own and a block by Isenhour ended it to keep Sandburg's hopes alive.
