
(Chicago Heights, IL.) - After dropping the opening game, Waubonsee Community College's women's volleyball team throttled Prairie State College the next three games to easily win their Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) road match on Wednesday evening. The Chiefs (5-13, 4-2) lost game one to the Pioneers 25-23 before responding in a big way. Led by sophomore Athena Westphal, Waubonsee took game two 25-13 before hammering the host school by identical 25-8 scores in the third and fourth sets to earn the ISCC victory. An outside hitter from Yorkville, Westphal spiked her way to 18 kills, served up seven aces and made eight digs in leading the Chiefs past the Pioneers (1-14, 1-5). Tauja Crump added nine kills and three aces, while Claudia Johnson registered 39 assists. Makayla McNally booked seven kills, Madison Marziani-Radomski was credited with a dozen digs and Joselyn Roche contributed three aces in the win. Coach Steve Kish's Chiefs are set to play again on Thursday, October 3 at the College of DuPage beginning at 6:00 p.m. in Glen Ellyn. Waubonsee is also set to participate in the Grand Rapids Community College Invite this weekend, playing four matches at the Ford Fieldhouse in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Waubonsee returns home a week from now when they host ISCC foe Oakton Community College on Wednesday, October 9 with a 6:00 p.m start in Sugar Grove.
