Bob Jones joined Waubonsee’s coaching staff for the 2017 season as the Chiefs' Assistant Coach. During his four previous seasons with the Chiefs he has helped Waubonsee win an Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) title (2018) and a Region IV crown (2019), finishing 13th in the nation at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in West Virgina. Jones is no stranger to the Chief’s volleyball program, having worked as the color analyst on the college’s television coverage of Waubonsee home matches the two years prior to that. Two of his three daughters, Mallory and Natalie, have also played for the Chiefs. Mallory, who is again serving as a Volunteer Assistant Coach this season, was a key member of the Chiefs’ volleyball success in 2015 and 2016 before moving on to play at Dominican University. Natalie, who also joins the staff this season as a Volunteer Assistnat Coach, was the ISCC Player of the Year in 2018 while helping Waubonsee win the conference title. She also went on to play at Dominican as well, joining her twin sister Gillian who also played for the Stars.

Jones graduated from Aurora West High School in 1986 and didn’t start playing volleyball until the age of 21. Since then he has become well known throughout the Aurora and Downers Grove area volleyball scene and beyond. Called “Volleyball Bob” by some, Jones has competed in the USAV on and off since 1995 with the Chicago Coast. His team has had numerous top-10 finishes over the years at the US Open of Volleyball Tournament, including title runs in 2009 at Minneapolis and 2012 in Salt Lake City. The squad also finished second in 1997 and 2007, and took home third place hardware in 2000 and 2001. Jones has been recognized as the “Best Opposite Hitter” of the tournament and was named First Team All-Tournament in 1997, 2007 and 2009.

Jones has coached both youth and high school level club volleyball for over 17 years, with stints at Sports Performance, with the Illinois Heat and the Cyclones volleyball club. He currently coaches with Top Flight Volleyball Club and is USAV IMPACT certified. Additionally, in the summer Jones runs a beach league at Pinheadz in Yorkville with over 70 teams. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Aurora University with degrees in Computer Science and Business Management. When not playing, watching or coaching volleyball, Jones works as the Chief Deputy Treasurer for Kendall County. He and his wife Michelle live in Aurora.
