Chiefs compete at ONU's Midwest Intercollegiate Meet

(Bourbonnais, IL.) - Waubonsee Community College's Men's Cross Country team continues to impress against runners predominantly from four-year schools. The Chiefs finished eighth as a team out of 18 schools participating in Olivet Nazarene University's Midwest Intercollegiate Meet at Aspen Ridge Golf Course. Waubonsee runners compiled a team score of 229, well ahead of any of the other four junior colleges competing in the event. North Central College won the team title with 25 points, placing five runners among the top-10 finishers. The host school Tigers were a distant second with 71 points and Trine (IN.) University was third with a score of 94.

The Chiefs were once again led by Jordan VanBarriger who placed 16th overall among the 237 runners who tackled the 8K course. The freshman from Rockford East High School crossed the finish line in a time of 26:22. Waubonsee's Stephen Merriweatherand Brad Osuch each placed in the top-40 finishing in under 27 minutes. The Chiefs' Tomas Dominguez came in 124th overall, Ryan Moshinsky was 161st, Jake Fehrenbacher was 171st and C.J. Girolamo finshed 202.

The Chiefs' women's team had just four participants and did not qualify in the team scoring. Daphne Kolody paced Waubonsee's quartet of runners finishing 53rd out of 129 competitors. Maira Weitkamp reached the finish line 82nd, while newcomers Victoria Esparza and Mandy Winslow placed 103rd and 127th, respectively.
