Chiefs open 2019 season at Elmhurst Early Bird Invite

(Elmhurst, IL) - Waubonsee Community College's Men's and Women's Cross Country teams opened the 2019 season by competing in the Elmhurst College Early Bird Invitational over the weekend. One of only three junior colleges in the field, the Chiefs' men's squad finished eighth overall with a score of 245.  Sophomore Jordan VanBarriger led the charge coming in 12th individually out of 128 runners participating. The Rockford East graduate covered the 6 Kilometer course at Eldridge Park in a time of 19:41 to be one of just 16 runners to turn in a sub 20-minute time. Waubonsee's Brad Osuch placed 40th, Dalton Klingensmith was 58th, Noah Robinson came in 61st and C.J. Girolamo finished 75th to round out the Chiefs' scoring. Matt Osmulski, a senior from North Central College, won the men's race with a time of 18:54 as the Cardinals scored a perfect 15 points to easily run off with the team title. Waubonsee's women had only four competitors and did not qualify for the team scoring. Gaby Juarez-Marrufo paced the Chiefs' quartet by coming in 31st with a time of 17:24 over the 4 Kilometer course. Elizabeth Hess finished 72nd, while Maira Weitkamp was 94th and Dani Padilla placed 98th out of 127 runners. The host school Elmhurst College took the women's title with a score of 27 points, well ahead of second place Lake Forest College's 81 points.
