Women win ISCC title, Men finish third

(Palos Hills, IL) - Waubonsee Community College's Women's Cross Country team captured the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) title over the weekend at the league meet hosted by Moraine Valley Community College. The conference title is the eighth overall for Waubonsee's women's program and first since 2013. The Chiefs' Megan Johnson won the women's 5K race in a time of 22:08 to earn the ISCC Female Runner of the Year honor. Nuria Pugh finished second, while Emma Perry came in fourth, Rose Dallal was fifth and Abbigail Placido placed ninth to account for Waubonsee's winning score of 21 points. Head Coach Eric Baron was named the ISCC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.

In addition, the Chiefs' Men's Cross Country squad finished third in the team standings with 43 points overall. Freshman Dayton Beatty paced the Chiefs' contingent by traversing the 8K course in a time of 29:28 to finish third. Teammate Logan Cunz was behind him in fourth place, while Huitzi Del Real crossed the finish line in 11th place, followed by Finn Gannon in 12th place and Owen Kreyr in 13th place. Respectively, Ricardo Duran and Clayton Burnett finished 16th and 17th to round out the Chiefs' competitors. The host school Cyclones, paced by first-place finisher Jack Kajmowicz with a time of 29:00, won the men's crown with a team total of 35 points.

The Chiefs runners are set to compete again this coming Saturday, October 28 in the Region 4 Meet. Waubonsee is the host school for the event which will be held at the Northwestern Medicine Cross Country Course in Geneva. The men's race is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. with the women's race to start at 11:30 a.m. The winning teams and top inividual runners will qualify for the 2023 NJCAA Division II National Meet set to be held at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Alabama on November 11.
