Abby Ebener begins her second season in charge of the Chiefs' Cross Country program after serving as the Men's and Women's Assistant Coach in the fall of 2018. She helped three Waubonsee runners qualify for the 2019 NJCAA National Tournament, including standout Jordan VanBarriger. The sophomore from Rockford East earned Honorable Mention All-American honors by placing 18th nationally while setting a men's 8K school-record with a time of 25:18. Ebener was a two-year captain of St. Ambrose University's Cross Country team, where she graduated from in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education Teaching and Coaching. She also earned the Fighting Bees' "Champion of Character" Award given annually to the student-athletes that positively represents the NAIA school's five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership. Ebener has experience in coaching cross country, track and field, and basketball. She currently teaches Math at Prarie Knolls Middle School in Elgin, which is part of Burlington School District 301. The last three years she has served as the Head Track and Field Coach leading Burlington to three conference crowns. Ebener has also been Burlington's Head Cross Country Coach, leading them to consecutive conference titles. Prior to that she worked in the Palos Heights School District where she coached her basketball team to a 15-1 record and a conference title. In addition, Ebener coached freshman volleyball at DeKalb High School in 2012.
