Trevor Howard embarks upon his fourth season as the head coach of the Chiefs’ men’s and women’s cross country programs. Over the last three years he has helped guide 14 runners to All-Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) status and 12 to All-Region honors. In his debut season in 2015 Howard directed the Men’s team to the Region IV title and a 20th place finish at the NJCAA Division I National Meet. Not surprisingly he was named the Region IV Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. He followed that up in 2016 by helping guide four Chiefs’ runners to All-ISCC honors and five to All-Region status, with the men’s team placing 25th at the National Meet in Kansas. Last fall he helped Dylan Zangri and Emma McSpadden each capture ISCC Runner of the Year accolades. Zangri went on to also earn Region IV Runner of the Year and placed 19th at the National Meet in Iowa, equaling the best finish ever by a Waubonsee male runner.

Coach Howard graduated in 2009 from Wilmington High School where he was a three-sport athlete. He went on to excel on the track and the cross country course for the University of St. Francis in Joliet. Howard ran at the NAIA Indoor National Championships in 2011 as part of the Fighting Saints’ distance medley relay and ran the marathon at the 2014 NAIA Outdoor National Championship, finishing 14th in the nation. He was a member of St. Francis’ 2012 NAIA National Championship Cross Country team. In the classroom he was near the head of the pack as well, earning the distinction of track and field NAIA-scholar athlete three times and cross country NAIA-scholar athlete status in 2013.

Howard graduated from the University of St. Francis in May of 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and holds a USA Track and Field Level 1 coaching certification. He spent the 2014 season as an assistant cross country coach at Gardner South-Wilmington High School, helping one of his Lady Panthers’ cross country runners place second at the Illinois State Class ‘A’ Finals. Howard is currently the assistant Track and Field coach at Dwight High School where he helped guide 11 student-athletes to All-State status this past spring, including the boy’s 800 meter State Champion. Away from running, Howard currently works at Consolidated Pipe and Supply and resides in Channahon.
